… are everywhere on the Camino. It makes sense as this is a religious pilgrimage in a very religious country. However, as well as the formal crosses in churches, cathedrals and other established institutions there are more informal ones.
On the way from Logroño to Nájera we came up a rather steep hill to be on a path next to a major road. Sensibly there was a fence separating pilgrims from very fast vehicles. For the next hundred meters the fence had been populated with makeshift crosses out off twigs, cardboard, plastic. Some had messages – dates, initials, names. Some cryptic, others heartfelt, all there for a reason.
What would your cross be for?
