… on the previous night we stayed at a convent in Santo Domingo de la Calzada. Our small “double” bedroom was two single beds with Jesus on the cross hung on the wall between us. In the evening we went to the nun’s vespers. We sat in the small chapel while the nuns sung and prayed in a side room out of sight. After the confusion it became clear the worship did not need to be seen and that our presence was not necessary for the nuns to worship and give thanks.
On our way from Santo Domingo to Belorado we spent some time on pathways that followed a motorway. Sometimes going under or close beside. The intrusion of this modern necessity into our rural Camino was interesting. However it became another landmark on our journey. The distance signs for the cars were usually a lot less than what we needed to walk, but always reduced as time went on.
And there was beauty in the mass of concrete as well.
