… everywhere we walked there were buildings that looked unused, abandoned, or in various states of disrepair. We passed this building on our way from Castrojirez to Fromista. I’m sure part of it is due to our historical path across Spain, taking us away from the more modern parts of towns, taking us through farms and fields (doesn’t every farm have a few old buildings no longer needed?). Maybe it is due to the move from country to city that is reducing the need for accommodation; or new farming methods no longer requiring equipment that would have been stored in some of these buildings. Or, maybe, we were just more observant of things while on our pilgrimage.
